Carrer de Santa Maria, 11
To pass through the door of Can Bosch grocery store is to be taken back to the Mataró of the early twentieth century. This store, one of the oldest in the city, retains the same structure and furniture as the day it was opened in 1916.
The first owner was Joan Bosch i Pujadas, a former apprentice of La Confianza, a modernist shop similar to this. Although it has always been known as Can Bosch, it was initially baptised as Flor de Mayo (May flower).
Today the interior is an unintended museum of ancient objects. The two wooden counters and the glass cabinets are the originals. Just look at the curious advertising claims of the false ceiling and counters, on the scales, on the sweet jars… The ceiling also stands out with plaster mouldings and a large central medallion.
The store has maintained its original spirit and charm and has survived to this day thanks to the founder’s daughter, Carme Bosch i Martori, and Maria Teresa Bosch i Lladó, who open the shutters of this centenary establishment day after day.
